Mushfiqur and Litton hit half-centuries to take Bangladesh's lead past 350

Bangladesh continued to dominate Pakistan on Day 3 of the Sylhet Test, reaching 307 for 6 at tea and extending their overall lead to a commanding 353 runs.

Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 90 at the break, anchoring the innings brilliantly alongside Taijul Islam, who provided valuable support at the other end. Despite Pakistan managing to claim two wickets in the middle session, they failed to break Bangladesh’s growing control over the match.

The atmosphere in Sylhet briefly intensified when Mushfiqur Rahim got involved in a heated exchange with Pakistan captain Shan Masood, who also appeared to direct comments toward Taijul Islam. However, Bangladesh responded in style moments later when Taijul smashed a superb pull shot off Khurram Shahzad while almost airborne, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Litton Das once again impressed with the bat, completing another fine half-century shortly after lunch. The innings marked the third time in his career that he has scored both a century and a half-century in the same Test match — now the most by any Bangladesh wicketkeeper, surpassing Mushfiqur Rahim’s previous record.

Litton also enjoyed a stroke of luck when Sajid Khan dropped a difficult return catch with the batter on 58. After Mushfiqur completed his own half-century, Litton eventually departed for 69 after attempting an uppercut off Hasan Ali, only to find Saud Shakeel at fly slip.

Khurram Shahzad continued to be Pakistan’s standout bowler, claiming his fourth wicket by clean bowling Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 19. Following the dismissal, Mushfiqur accelerated the scoring rate, striking boundaries against both Sajid Khan and Shahzad to push Bangladesh further ahead.

Earlier in the morning session, Shahzad had removed Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto lbw with a delivery that sharply jagged back in. Shanto struggled throughout his stay, scoring just 15 from 46 deliveries.

Pakistan’s fielding woes also hurt them after a costly missed run-out opportunity. Litton Das survived when Babar Azam failed to hit the stumps directly despite the batter being well short of his crease during a mix-up with Mushfiqur.

Pakistan were earlier bowled out for 232 in their first innings, with Babar Azam top-scoring with 68. Sajid Khan added late entertainment with four sixes, while Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam picked up three wickets each for Bangladesh.

With Bangladesh firmly in control and the lead already beyond 350, Pakistan now face a massive challenge heading into the remainder of the Test match.
