The race for the IPL 2026 playoffs is heating up as Rajasthan Royals take on Delhi Capitals in a crucial encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday.
With the tournament entering its decisive stage, both teams have plenty at stake. Rajasthan Royals currently sit fifth on the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points from 11 matches, and a victory tonight could push the inaugural champions back into the top four. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive and face a virtual must-win situation, having collected 10 points from 12 games so far.
The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM IST and will be streamed live on the JioHotstar app and website, while television coverage will be available across the Star Sports network.
Earlier this season, Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in Jaipur. However, last year’s meeting between the two sides at the Arun Jaitley Stadium produced a thrilling Super Over finish despite a brilliant half-century from Yashasvi Jaiswal during RR’s chase of 188.
Historically, the rivalry has been closely contested, with Delhi Capitals holding a slight edge after winning 16 of the 31 IPL matches played between the two teams.
Rajasthan Royals will once again rely heavily on young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has been one of the breakout stars of IPL 2026. The explosive batter has scored 440 runs in 11 matches at a remarkable strike rate of 237 and currently leads the tournament charts for both strike rate and most sixes, with 40 maximums this season. He showed his aggressive intent again in the previous game against Gujarat Titans, smashing 36 runs off just 16 balls.
Dhruv Jurel has also impressed with his finishing ability and comes into the contest needing only six more runs to complete 1000 IPL runs. In the bowling department, Jofra Archer has been RR’s standout performer with 15 wickets this season.
For Delhi Capitals, KL Rahul has led the batting charts with 477 runs in 12 matches at an outstanding strike rate of nearly 178. Captain Axar Patel has been their leading wicket-taker with 12 scalps and will once again play a key all-round role.
Several milestones are also on the line heading into the clash:
• Riyan Parag is one catch away from completing 50 IPL catches
• Shimron Hetmyer needs four sixes to reach 100 IPL sixes
• Yashasvi Jaiswal is six boundaries away from 300 IPL fours
• Vaibhav Sooryavanshi requires six more sixes to complete 50 IPL sixes
• Dhruv Jurel is just six runs away from 1000 IPL runs
• Yashasvi Jaiswal needs three more runs to complete 4000 T20 runs
With playoff qualification hanging in the balance and both sides packed with match-winners, fans can expect an intense and high-pressure showdown in New Delhi tonight.
