WASHINGTON: The United States has reportedly laid down five strict conditions for Iran as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate, making it clear that no meaningful peace process can move forward unless Tehran agrees to the proposed demands.
According to reports, Washington has rejected Iran’s request for compensation over damages caused by previous bombings carried out on Iranian territory. US officials have also refused to provide any direct financial payments to Tehran as part of future negotiations.
In addition, the United States has imposed strict limitations on Iran’s nuclear activities, allowing the transfer of only 400 kilograms of enriched uranium to a single designated nuclear facility under closely monitored conditions.
The US has also shown only limited flexibility regarding frozen Iranian assets, reportedly agreeing to ease restrictions on just 25% of the blocked funds. At the same time, Washington has urged Iran to engage in broader regional negotiations aimed at reducing tensions across multiple fronts, including the situation in Lebanon and wider Middle East security concerns.
Iran, however, has strongly reacted to the US stance and vowed to confront what it described as growing American pressure and military aggression in the region.
Major General Mohsen Rezaei, a senior military adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, warned that the Sea of Oman could become a “graveyard” for American naval forces if tensions continue to intensify. He stressed that Iran’s restraint should not be interpreted as weakness or submission to threats.
Rezaei also questioned the continued military presence of the United States in the Gulf region, arguing that the original reasons for deployment — including countering the former Soviet Union — no longer exist. While reaffirming that the Strait of Hormuz remains open for international trade, he warned that Iran would not tolerate foreign military buildups or any attempts to undermine regional stability.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has reportedly intensified consultations regarding possible military options against Iran. Reports suggest that Trump has held discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior national security officials over the rapidly developing situation.
According to reports, the Pentagon has also prepared contingency plans targeting Iranian energy and infrastructure facilities in the event that hostilities between the two countries escalate further.
